Extra Curricular Activities

Sport remains an important part of any child’s education throughout their lives, so at Japari we would like every child to participate in at least one sport extra mural per term. We use the Zoo Lake Sports grounds and pool, which provide excellent sporting facilities for our own practices and visiting teams. Through sport one learns life lessons and skills and we encourage this by giving committed children a chance to play in the teams.  At Japari we participate in established Leagues for cricket, soccer, swimming, athletics and netball.  Where possible we send our strongest teams so as to give our opposition competitive matches.  With our Junior sides we try as much as possible to give as many children a chance to play matches, but as they move up into the senior phases we send the best possible team to give our opposition competitive matches. Our Grade 7s are awarded team scrolls if the appropriate criteria are reached and this is a strong motivation to participate in sport.  Sports awards are held at the end of the school year where the sportsmen and sportswomen are recognised for their dedication and commitment throughout the sporting season.

Through this experience, students are able to develop courage as they take risks, strength while displaying finesse, competitive intensity while exhibiting generosity of spirit, and mental as well as physical endurance. While the focus is to facilitate the development of each student’s athletic potential, the greater hope is to instill motivation to continue lifelong physical activity.
