At Japari, we promote a healthy lifestyle through sport, encouraging all pupils to join at least one extra mural activity, including PE, each week.
Teamwork, discipline and fun
Sport is a way for our pupils to learn important life skills.

With small classes and a competitive spirit, we employ graded coaches alongside our skilled PE teachers. We take part in netball matches with nearby schools, inter-house galas.
We do not have sporting facilities on site. We use the nearby Zoo Lake sporting facilities and the Linden Pool, so that our pupils get a well-rounded sporting education.
Special awards
At the end of the school year, we celebrate all our sports stars with awards: a time to appreciate our young athletes’ dedication and hard work.
Art, music, chess and technology
Art
At Japari, art is more than drawing and painting. It is a gateway to a well-rounded education. Our art teacher guides pupils through creative activities that build their artistic skills and connect with other subjects like Maths and English, with stories about the pieces they create and the basics of art theory.
Pottery and clay are recent additions, and the pupils love them. Art helps our pupils think critically, solve problems and develop fine motor skills.
Music
Our weekly music programme is led by Drum Tribe. Every Wednesday, pupils from Grade 1 to 7 learn to sing, dance and play musical instruments. Each term they focus on a song, and the term ends in a final performance.
Classes cover music theory: timbre, tone, pitch, rhythm, dynamics and tempo, building teamwork and discipline along the way.
Chess
Chess is a brain workout. It encourages pupils to think strategically and logically. Every year we hold a chess tournament to build concentration, problem-solving and creativity, with teachers guiding the way and the winners announced at the end.
Technology
We prioritise technology to equip pupils with skills for the future. Each year Junior Engineers for Africa (JEFA) runs hands-on workshops at Japari, from Arduino breadboard circuits to memory skills with Lego. Our revamped computer centre and a robotics programme, introduced with the support of our PTA, add coding and robotics to the week.
