A school day, the Japari way
Every day at Japari is filled with opportunities to learn, explore, connect and grow. From the classroom to the playground, our nurturing environment ensures that every child feels supported, included and encouraged to thrive at their own pace.
From the first bell to home time
A full school day with the same shape every day, and the support built into it rather than added on after school.
The bell
School starts at 07:30 on the bell, at the same time every day.
Small classes
The CAPS curriculum, taught in small classes by teachers trained to teach children who learn differently.
First break
The tuck shop, the field and the junior playground.
Therapy, not after school
Speech and occupational therapists work here, in the school day, planned with the class teacher.
Second break
Time to run, play and catch up with friends.
Home time, Grades 1 to 3
Grades 4 to 7 finish at 13:40, and at 13:10 on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sport and clubs
Cricket, soccer, swimming and athletics against other schools, with chess, sewing, hip hop and board games.
Aftercare closes
Supervised homework and play until 17:30, Monday to Thursday, and 17:00 on Fridays, during term. Aftercare

Our play-based, CAPS-aligned Grade R programme is designed to inspire confident, curious learners. Co-taught with Grade 1, children benefit from a seamless transition into formal schooling while developing the skills they need to thrive, all in a warm, safe and engaging environment.
Grade R 2027
Groundwork for a lifelong love of learning
The Foundation Phase lays the crucial groundwork for a lifelong love of learning.
The primary goal during this phase is to foster curiosity, instil a passion for learning, and build the fundamental skills necessary for future academic success.

Our on-site therapies and remediation are integrated into the learning environment, minimising disruptions to class time. We provide a strong educational base and set the stage for pupils to thrive academically and personally throughout their schooling careers.
From learning to read, to reading to learn
In the Intermediate Phase we focus on nurturing your child’s love for learning, building on the foundation established earlier.
Our goal is to support them to become better thinkers and independent learners. During this stage, your child moves from learning to read to reading to learn. We emphasise thinking skills and applying knowledge, while respecting diverse ideas and values.
English, Mathematics and the other CAPS subjects are covered, with additional classes in music, art, computers and physical education. Our team, including educational psychologists and other specialists, makes sure that each child’s learning needs are addressed, so they grow academically and personally and are well prepared for the future.
Ready for high school and beyond
Grade 7 is a crucial time for our pupils.
Our Senior Phase is designed to prepare pupils academically, socially and emotionally, so they are well-rounded individuals ready for the challenges of high school and beyond.

Specialist teachers for music, art, computers and physical education nurture creativity and physical well-being. Our team, including an educational psychologist, a learning support coordinator and a speech and language therapist, works together to support each pupil’s learning needs.
Our Grade 7s write the Independent Schools’ Mathematics and English shared assessment exams every November, which prepares them for Grade 8.
What a Japari day looks like
Therapy that serves the learning
For sixty years, Japari has put learning and support side by side. Therapy is planned with the class teacher around each child’s individual education plan, so it strengthens what happens in the classroom rather than taking its place.
Your child gets the support they need, when they need it. The rest of the day is what school should be: lessons, friends, sport and play.
Planned, not piled on
Support is set out in your child’s individual education plan and reviewed as they progress.
Inside the school day
Therapy is integrated into the learning environment, so time out of class is kept to a minimum.
Changes as they grow
Support adapts as skills and confidence build, with a mainstream high school in view.

Strengthening working memory
We recognise the crucial role of cognitive development in a child’s education. Cogmed is a software programme designed to strengthen working memory, run as a five-week course at Japari with Clinical Psychologist Gerard Finnemore.
